In 2017, the Government of Ontario established the Distribution Rate Protection (DRP) program through amendments to the Ontario Energy Board Act, 1998 (OEB Act) and related regulation (the DRP Regulation). The DRP program provides rate protection for residential electricity consumers who live in areas with higher distribution costs (DRP consumers). The DRP program is funded by provincial revenues.
This Decision and Order establishes the maximum monthly base distribution charge that distributors subject to the DRP program can charge an eligible residential consumer for consumption on or after July 1, 2026. The maximum monthly base distribution charge, using the OEB’s approved 2026 inflation factor for electricity distributors, has increased by 3.70%, from $42.88 per month in 2025 to $44.47 effective July 1, 2026.
