What is Equal Payment Plan?
The Equal Payment Plan (EPP) is a convenient, interest-free way to budget your electricity bills by spreading your annual energy costs into 12 equal monthly payments. Instead of paying for the exact amount of energy used each month, your payments are based on an average of your yearly consumption. At the end of the 12-month period, your account is reconciled—meaning you may receive a credit if you overpaid or be billed for any outstanding balance.
How will my Equal Payment amount be calculated?
Your Equal Payment amount is calculated using your historical electricity usage over the past 12 months. Algoma Power averages this consumption to determine a consistent monthly payment. While your bill will still show your actual monthly usage, you will only pay the fixed EPP amount during the plan year.
Can I request to go on Equal Payment Plan at any time?
Yes. You can enroll in the Equal Payment Plan at any time as long as you meet the following conditions:
- You are a residential customer
- You are not under contract with an energy retailer
- Your account has a zero balance
Can my Equal Payment amount change during the 12 months?
Yes. Your EPP amount may be reviewed and adjusted up to four times per year to better reflect your actual usage. This ensures your payments stay aligned with your electricity consumption and helps reduce large adjustments at the end of the year. If an adjustment is required, you will be notified in advance. You can also monitor your running balance on your bill to track whether you have overpaid or underpaid.
